The Architecture of Trust: Navigating Regulatory Transparency, Market Structure, and Ecosystem Security in Digital Finance
Abstract
Trust architecture is central to the resilience and legitimacy of digital financial ecosystems, particularly in fragmented regulatory environments like Nigeria. This study examines trust architecture in digital finance through regulatory transparency, market structure, and ecosystem security, using a comprehensive desk review of scholarly literature, regulatory documents, and industry reports. The study traces the shift from centralized institutional trust to decentralized, technology-enabled architectures and analyzes the factors influencing each construct across developed and emerging markets. Findings indicate that clear regulatory frameworks, competitive market structures, and robust security measures positively shape trust and market confidence. However, regulatory fragmentation, market concentration, algorithmic opacity, and cyber threats pose significant barriers. The study recommends that policymakers enhance regulatory transparency, address market concentration through enabling policies, and strengthen ecosystem security to improve resilience. Future research should empirically investigate regulatory transparency's effect on market participation, market structure evolution's impact on competitive sustainability, and ecosystem security integration's role in trust sustainability and crisis resilience.
