Educational Infrastructure Planning and Students’ Academic Performance in Public Secondary School in Edo South Senatorial District of Edo State, Nigeria
Abstract
This study examined the relationship between educational infrastructure planning and students' academic performance in public secondary schools in Edo South Senatorial District, Edo State. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design with a sample of 684 students and 132 teachers selected from 26 public secondary schools across the seven Local Government Areas in the district. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analysed using descriptive statistics and Pearson Product Moment Correlation at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that there is a significant positive relationship between classroom facilities and students' academic performance, library facilities and students' academic performance, laboratory facilities and students' academic performance, and electricity facilities and students' academic performance. The study concluded that educational infrastructure planning is a critical determinant of students' academic performance in public secondary schools. It was recommended that school administrators and the government should prioritise the provision and maintenance of classroom facilities, library facilities, laboratory facilities, and electricity facilities to enhance students' academic performance.
